黄丹(Ouni|Noble Vermilion Orange)

黄丹(Ouni|Noble Vermilion Orange)

1. Ouni (Noble Vermilion Orange)

"Ouni" is a vibrant radiant orange resembling the rising morning sun. Since the Heian period (794–1185) this color has been designated as a "Forbidden Color " reserved exclusively for the Crown Prince of Japan to wear during ceremonies. It is created by layering the red of Safflower (Benibana) and the yellow of Gardenia (Kuchinasi). This majestic blend symbolizes the light of dawn and the hope of a new era. We invite you to experience the dignity and brilliance of this historically significant color.

2. About This Product

An authentic natural dye kit that brings the traditional techniques of Kyoto into your home. We deliver the vibrant, living colors that can only be obtained from plants—hues possessing a warmth and depth that synthetic chemical dyes cannot mimic.

  • Ingredients: Natural Botanical Dye Extract, Mordant (Fixative)
  • Capacity: Suitable for dyeing approx. one T-shirt (200g of fabric)
  • Origin: Made in Japan
  • Kit Includes: Dye extract, Mordant, Instruction manual

*Note: Fabric is not included. Please prepare natural fibers such as cotton, linen, or silk.

3. How to Dye

This kit includes a detailed step-by-step guide, ensuring a worry-free experience even for beginners.
The basic process is simple: immerse your fabric in the extracted dye, apply the mordant (to fix the color), then wash and dry.
Enjoy a slow, mindful time in your own kitchen, surrounded by the natural scent of the plants as the colors transform.

4. Care Instructions for Your Finished Piece

  • Washing: Wash separately using a neutral detergent in cold or lukewarm water to prevent color transfer.
  • Drying: Natural dyes are sensitive to UV rays. Please dry in the shade to preserve the hue.
  • Aging: The color will settle and the texture will deepen with use. Enjoy the natural shifting of tones as part of the unique beauty of living colors.

5. Important Notes

  • The final color result will vary depending on the fabric material (cotton, linen, silk, etc.), thickness, dyeing time, and temperature.
  • Slight color unevenness is characteristic of hand-dyeing. Please enjoy these unique marks of authenticity that cannot be replicated by machines.
  • Please be cautious of potential shrinkage when dyeing delicate natural fibers such as wool or silk.

6. Sustainability

Using natural dyes minimizes chemical runoff and reduces environmental impact.
Additionally, re-dyeing old garments breathes new life into them, contributing to a culture of "upcycling" and cherishing items for years to come.
